Evolution of Pottery Art

This course explores the evolution of pottery art in countries along the historic Silk Road—a network that facilitated the exchange of not only goods but also ideas, techniques, and aesthetics between East and West.

Students will study the styles, techniques, and uses of ceramics from civilizations such as China, Persia, Central Asia, Afghanistan, and Syria.

Pottery bearing Buddhist, Islamic, or Chinese motifs illustrates the rich cultural exchanges along this trade route.
Beyond aesthetic analysis, the course examines topics like trade, religious interactions, and artist migration.

It aims to provide students with a clear understanding of how pottery art developed, transformed, and traveled across diverse temporal and geographical contexts.
